About Us:
Over the course of a year, we will grow well over 100 varieties of specialty and heirloom produce here; what sets our growing practices apart from others is our philosophy that every crop has a peak growing time during the year, while other farms might force a crop to grow using hydroponics or heated greenhouses. We believe that the quality and flavor of a vegetable grown during its proper season is unbeatable. For over 25 years, our mentors and predecessors Sheldon Marcuvitz and Carole Laity of Your Kitchen Garden, LLC have proven this year after year by continuously providing Portland's best restaurants with top quality produce. Since taking over farming operations here and opening Canby Farm and Kitchen, LLC, we have made it our goal to provide the same quality produce that was once offered exclusively to restaurants, made available to our CSA customers. We offer CSA options to fit everyone's needs: we have a full year share of either large or economy sized boxes which will offer the largest discount and large or economy sized seasonal share options which also offer a substantial discount, as well as a SNAP and DUFB program. We have multiple pick up locations available as well.
We are an eco-conscious, regenerative and sustainable farm. We absolutely do not use any type of pesticide, herbicide, or fungicide; in fact we don't spray at all. Our practice of planting crops in the correct season helps us to avoid any sort of insect pests; we also attract beneficial insects such as green lacewing, ladybugs, and bees by planting certain species of flowers, as well as barn cats that control the mole and vole population along with barn owls, eagles and hawks. We practice crop rotation, green manuring and hand weeding in order to ensure that our soil is fertile every year, all of our seeds are sown by hand, each plant is planted by hand, and every vegetable and fruit is harvested by hand at it's peak freshness and ripeness only days before being sold.
